What we stand for
Six commitments, from ecosystem over elitism to local and global stewardship.
Six commitments guide everything WUF does: what it says, whom it invites and how it measures its own success.
Ecosystem over elitism
Every legitimate institution counts: regional, technical, community and newly founded universities alongside the established ones. The value of a university is measured by how well it serves its students and its society.
Academic freedom and integrity
The university is protected as a place of open inquiry and truth. WUF stands for the freedom of scholars to ask questions and publish answers, and for the integrity that makes that freedom trusted.
Inclusion
The voices of the Global South are amplified, and the linguistic and cultural diversity of scholarship is protected. WUF watches the balance of its table so that no region, no type of university and no stakeholder is ever left out.
Authentic support
Success is measured by real change in institutions and communities, not by the prestige of a network. WUF reports to its members each year on what the family has achieved together.
Ethical innovation
New technologies, artificial intelligence among them, serve the human mission of education. Universities, not vendors, should set the terms on which they are used.
Local and global stewardship
A university must never be a foreigner in its own land. Its first public is the city, the region and the nation around it, and its horizon is the whole world. Humanity over metrics; service over self-preservation.
