Our Work
Five areas of work
Academic diplomacy, data and intelligence, innovation and technology, inclusive leadership, resilience and continuity.
WUF organizes its work around five areas, each built on the long trends that shape the future of universities rather than on the pressures of a single year.
Academic diplomacy
A unified voice for universities wherever global decisions are made; alliances that cross borders and bridge the Global North and South; and shared declarations that set direction for the decades ahead.
Data and intelligence
Independent, unbiased data on the world’s universities, and benchmarks that measure a university’s impact on society, not its prestige. A sector that cannot see itself whole cannot lead its own future.
Innovation and technology
Supporting universities as they adopt artificial intelligence and other new technologies responsibly; networks around university innovation districts; and research across borders on the great shared challenges.
Inclusive leadership
Pathways that bring diverse leaders to the top of university governance; professional development for the world’s 15+ million academics; and dedicated networks that advance equity in every academic role.
Resilience and continuity
Rapid response frameworks that keep teaching and research going through conflict, disaster and pandemic, and support for the long-term survival of institutions under strain.
Education is a human right that must survive every crisis.
